December Insolvency Statistics Released


ASIC has just published the corporate insolvency statistics for December 2012.  December saw 730 companies entering some form of insolvency administration (including Liquidation, Voluntary Administration and Receivership) which was  the lowest December number since 2009. 

The other key statistics are:

  • The number of companies entering some form of insolvency administration in the 12 months to December 2012 was 10,632. That is a 1.4% increase over the previous year and a 15% increase over the average of the previous 5 years.
  • The number of insolvencies in December 2012 was 730 which was the lowest December number since 2009. It was a 4% decrease from the previous December, and a small (0.4%) decrease from the average of the previous five Decembers.
  • December was a fairly even month state by state with decreases all around when compared to November. New South Wales made up a higher than usual percentage of the total with 41% compared to an average of 39% this year.
